Realtà e Verità nel nuovo mezzo d’espressione artistica della cantautrice rock
Scatti imprecisi per il senso dell’immediatezza…

A ventiquattro ore dal comunicato del 31 Dicembre 1946 del Presidente degli Stati Uniti Harry Truman, che proclamava la fine delle ostilità della seconda guerra mondiale negli USA, in Illinois, nasce Patti Smith.
Poco più che ventenne si trasferisce a New York ed inizia ad esibirsi nei fumosi locali del Greenwich Village leggendo sue poesie. Affascinata dal legame tra musica e parole nel 1975 dà vita al suo primo album: “Horses“, prodotto da John Cale (la foto che la ritrae sul fronte della copertina è opera del suo grande amico e fotografo Robert Mapplethorpe), da qui la sua inarrestabile ascesa verso il firmamento del rock è inesorabile.
Tutti la conosciamo come poetessa, cantante, pittrice, ma in pochi sanno che una delle sue più grandi passioni è la fotografia.
A celebrarla sarà una mostra che si svolgerà dal 21 Ottobre 2011 al 19 febbraio 2012 presso il Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art nel Connecticut dal nome: “Patti Smith: Camera Solo” curata da Susan Talbott.
Settanta immagini rigorosamente in bianco e nero scattate con una Polaroid Land 250, fedele compagna dagli anni ‘70, più due installazioni multimediali.
Dopo la morte del marito Fred Smith (chitarrista degli MC5), avvenuta il 4 Novembre 1994, Patti Smith si chiude nel suo mondo, ritirandosi dalle scene per alcuni anni.
La sua difficoltà comunicativa ebbe fine quando riprese in mano la sua vecchia Polaroid. La mostra ci parla di questo, del suo lato malinconico e creativo quanto ricco di significato, messo a nudo dalla tragica perdita. Immagini di vita quotidiana, dettagli intimi accarezzati dal tempo, un’inedita Patti Smith che dal suo microcosmo descrive un mondo intero che abbraccia ognuno di noi.
Fotografie dalle tinte ora nette ora eteree che ci raccontano di oggetti di stampo ottocentesco (ricordiamo la lettiera su cui fu trasportato Arthur Rimbaud, il letto di Virginia Woolf…), periodo da lei tanto amato per sua stessa ammissione, fino ad oggetti appartenuti al marito e all’amico Robert Mapplethorpe.
Interessanti anche i ritratti e gli autoritratti, gli ambienti urbani e rurali, le foto dei figli, della sua chitarra e della sempre presente macchina da scrivere.
Sono immagini che ci urlano verità, requisito fondamentale per la creazione di fotografie emotivamente attraenti, non vi è artificiosità ne falsificazione, solo ricordi così intensi da animare il presente.
Sono scatti imprecisi ma che danno il senso dell’immediatezza, rafforzano l’impressione della realtà e della verità e diventano così mezzi d’espressione artistica. La bellezza di un’opera fotografica non è la perfezione tecnica ma quanta emozione scatena nell’osservatore, la stessa emozione che Patti Smith ha messo in tutte le sue creazioni, dalle poesie, ai quadri, alle canzoni ed ora nelle fotografie.
io mi sono talmente innamorato che ho acquistato una Land 100 ( la stessa che usa Patti) e mi sono procurato le pellicole che ormai sono introvabili e si acquistano solo scadute…. Ad inizio novembre ero in Francia e Patti era senza pellicola….
sembrano sospese da un'altra dimensione…
a me piace un casino quella con quella strada sterrata… quel bianco e nero così etereo e sgranato ne fa un percorso onirico
